Einstein developed the concept of curved space-time after looking out of his window and noting a painter on a building opposite. He imagined him falling and wondered what would compel the unfortunate man to the ground. He then imagined his falling man in an elevator and realized that relative to the elevator the man would experience to weight relative to the elevator and that what was pushing but the man and the elevator was space itself i.e. larger bodies deformed space around themselves more than smaller objects thus attracting smaller objects to themselves.
Einstein's study method. He was known for concerted concentration on a problem for months until solved. He liked to retire to his study room to contemplate. He carried a notebook to jot ideas as he travelled around.
Hero was Isaac Newton.
